[Making] Faith – Episode 12

Episode 12 – an episode depicting huge change to Imja couple’s relationship. “Partnership” is the theme. Is Lee Min Ho sick? I keep hearing him sniffing since episode 11’s making.

Analysis of Villains Part 2

@Hanjae, thank you for your post. A few of my thoughts to add to our discussion about the villains.

I am not sure if Gi Cheol is possessive about them in the way he would about toys. Unlike the painter or Choi Young, Eum Ja and Soo In did not start out as objects that Gi Cheol wanted to acquire. They’re together because they shared the same teacher. Though I always wonder if their teacher, like Gi Cheol, is a collector of some sort. Anyway, they seem to have a closely-knit relationship, which I attribute to the shared interactions and experiences they had together, learning from the same teacher for years. Because of this, it is possible that Gi Cheol loves them in his own little way that we don’t know of but unfortunately, this isn’t explored much in the drama, so we can only speculate the degree of his love for them. The only time we catch a glimpse of his true emotion for his brood is the scene where he gets wind of the news that his brother has died. Perhaps he is the type of person who will only reveal his true emotions when a person close to him dies or is in trouble but I may be romanticizing him here.

The Analysis of Villains Part 1

@farstrep
Oh, I agree that Ki Chul did not regard his siblings in the same manner as he did Choi Young or the painter; I see it as “possessiveness” in the way that he knows and expects that they would remain loyal to him and carry out his orders. To Ki Chul, they are “his people,” the people who are of use to him. In a way, it is similar to the relationship between Gongmin and Choi Young, although Gongmin’s own character, his sense of insecurity and healthy respect for Young made their interactions very different – rather than expectance, Gongmin merely hopes that Young would continue to support him. Perhaps Ki Chul does have some fondness for Eum Ja and Hwa Soo In (though we can’t be sure due his lack of character development), but I suspect that he is not the sort who would condone disobedience or even difference in thinking in the way Gongmin would. Ki Chul respects strength and resourcefulness in other people, but only when they do not oppose him. Continue reading “The Analysis of Villains Part 1”

Faith Recap: Episode 21

We did a second rewatch + recap after Faith finished airing and the biggest regrets I had was not saving the recaps written by the fellow Soompi Faithlings. The only one I have is episode 21 where Daejang proposes to Eun Soo in the most Daejang’s style. Choi Young is a man with few words and he’s definitely not one who could spout cheesy, cringy lines and that makes his proposal ever more so precious and sincere. Writer Song Ji Na mentioned in her Q&A that she spent all night thinking of the most suitable proposal lines for Choi Young and Song Ji Na is not Song Ji Na for no reason. The proposal suited to Daejang to a tee.
